My Blogging Journey in Brief
Am Joe Titus (Sevijoe) the owner of this Blog Admalic.co.ke
I started Blogging in 2015, after graduating from High School in 2014.
I saved money to buy the essentials, the web hosting space and domain to start my blog (if you don’t know what hosting and domain name are, don’t worry, I will explain later.)
I personally set up my first blog using a mobile phone, yes a small Android smartphone (Gionee P4 precisely). I didn’t have a Laptop Computer and I was restricted from leaving home to visit a computer centre (Cyber Cafe) by my parent. (Normal way of African Parent. LoL!.).
I learnt everything I knew initially from home with the use of my mobile phone. I didn’t have any support, mentor or guidance on my route, I motivated and tie myself to Do It Yourself (DIY) guides about blogging on the internet.
I put all my effort and worked very hard providing valuable information to the visitors of my blog.
Though my primary aim of blogging was to make money online, I resolve to provide value to my visitors first. I understood that blogging is a business, and in business, you need to first of all build connection, trust and provide value to your potential customer before you even think of making money online.
Here is the exciting part of my story
After 6 months of core blogging, I finally received my first ever online earning from Google Adsense.
Guess how much the amount was?
$216, that’s what I got paid for that month. Not Much Right?
To me, that amount was huge and unbelievable. I felt very delighted to receive such money for something I used my mobile phone to do at home. I was blown away, to be honest.
That time I actually believed that online business is real. I believed that blogging is such a lucrative business. I was convinced that blogging is worthwhile.
From the day I received the first payment of blogging, I was motivated to earn even more. I was determined to put the hard work it deserves.
Today, I have lots of money spinner blogs. I have helped people attain success in the blogging business. I have recorded lots of successes in online businesses am into.
I will recommend and guide anyone who wishes to take up the Blogging business and start making money Blogging in Kenya.
See why I enjoy Blogging and Online Marketing.
- It gives me the freedom to do other businesses.
- The money I can make is unmetered – in blogging, there is NO limit to how much you can make, the more effort you put, the more money you make.

I want to start by answering the frequently asked questions about blogging in Kenya.
What is a Blog?
If you google the term “What is a Blog” or “what is Blogging“, you will be perplexed with the difference in definition available.
Before I define the ‘what is a blog’ question – here are few definitions from other much wiser people to get us started:
‘A weblog is a hierarchy of text, images, media objects and data, arranged chronologically, that can be viewed in an HTML browser.’ Source
‘A frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and Web links.’ Source
‘From “Weblog.” A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.”‘ Source
‘A weblog is kind of a continual tour, with a human guide who you get to know. There are many guides to choose from, each develops an audience, and there’s also camaraderie and politics between the people who run weblogs, they point to each other, in all kinds of structures, graphs, loops, etc.’ Source
A blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent ‘post’ (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom. Source
There is so much definition of a blog such that it can get you very confused if you are not already.
Well, here is my own down-to-earth definition of a blog and what blogging is.
- A Blog (aka Weblog) is a kind of website that information, news, stories, etc. are shared regularly.
- Blogging is the process of sharing information on the blog.
- A Blogger is the operator of a blog or I can say, a blogger is a person who shares information a blog.
For example, admalic.co.ke is a blog, because I share information like education news, job vacancies. etc. on it every day.
The process of creating the content I want to publish on this blog is called Blogging. If I tell somebody that I am blogging, it meaning am creating content to share on my blog or I am engaging with my blog.
So, as someone that owns and operates a blog, I am called a Blogger.
If you hear anyone with the title Blogger, you should probably know what it means now.
Hope you now understand what is a blog, what is blogging and who is a blogger.
Now moving forward, the next big question is:
Why do People Blog?
The question “Why do people blog?” is some times an insinuated way of asking Why should I own a Blog?, Why Should start a blog? etc. Let me explain everything to you.
If you ask me, Why Do You Blog? My answer is To Make Money, period!
Yes, why people blog and Why I started my blog and Why you should start a blog is to Make Money from it, as an exchange to the information and value you provide on your blog.
Many people may have a different viewpoint regarding this question, but that actually is my personal point of view.
I started my blog admalic.co.ke to help people with information about education, admissions, job vacancies, opportunities etc. so I can make money online in return.
So why you should start a blog in Kenya today should tie on helping people, solving a problem, sharing valuable information, showing people how to do something, entertaining people, leading people, giving value to people on your blog in exchange for your desired goal.
Your goal for starting a blog could be making money, gaining popularity, gaining reputation, keeping you busy, making you happy or whatever your objective is. Your goal determines the amount of effort you need to put into your blog.
Since my aim of blogging is to help people and make money in return, let talk about how to make money online by blogging in Kenya.
Warning: This session will get you blown away, so read slowing and pay careful attention.

How to Start a Blog in Kenya
The question “How to Start a Blog In Kenya,” “How to Create a Blog in Kenya” needs a separate article as it’s epic and needs lots of in-depth explanation.
But don’t freak out yet, I will explain everything in brief in this article then later I will write an in-depth and beginner friendly step by step article on how to create a blog in Kenya.
For the meantime, let start with the following.
Let me start by listing out the terms to start a blog in Kenya
- Pick a Niche/Topic
- Get a reliable Hosting
- Choose your Domain
- Choose a Blogging Platform
- Set up your Blog
- Start Creating Values
- Make Lots of Money and Enjoy Passive Income
Let me break things down.
Pick a Niche or Blogging Topic
Before starting a blog, the first essential steps is choosing a niche for your blog. It’s the area you will be providing value about. For example, on this blog, my niche is Education, Jobs and Career, this means I create contents about education, schools, admission, job vacancies, career tips etc.
There are many niches you can choose from to start your own blog. But you need to pick a niche that is proportional to your area of expertise or hobbies.
Your niche should be what you will enjoy blogging about. Don’t choose a niche because of it lucrativeness where you don’t have a clue about. Go for what you will enjoy and have knowledge about so that creating contents wouldn’t get limited and boring in the long run.
Below is some blogging niche you can choose from.
Choose your niche wisely before you start blogging in Kenya.
Choosing a Domain Name
Domain name is your internet URL: Universal Resource Locator. It’s basically the internet address of your blog. It’s the address people type into their browser to access your website.
Example of a domain name a.k.a. URL is https://admalic.co.ke. With it, anybody with internet connectivity can access my blog.
So to start your blog in Kenya, you will need to buy a domain name from a web or domain hosting company.
There are many domain name extensions available. The domain extension I recommend you to pick for your blog is .co.ke, .com or .net.
Using .co.ke is ideal if you are targeting only people in Kenya. Below are web hosting companies where you can buy cheap domains.
International Hosting Companies
These companies do not sell the .co.ke domain because it’s a local domain. They have .com, .net, .org, .info and other top-level domains.
Local Hosting Companies in Kenya
These are local hosting companies where you can buy .co.ke and other domain extensions.
I hope you understand it. If you don’t, leave your questions in the comments section.
Now let move on to Hosting.
Getting a Hosting
A web hosting platform is a space where your blog or domain name will be hosted. It is where all your files, images and posts are stored.
Without web hosting and domain, your website can’t go live on the internet. Web Hosting is like the hard drive of your stores’ files for your computer.
So to start a Blog, you need a web hosting company where you can buy web hosting space from. Don’t worry, there are lots of them available.
Below are the reliable web hosting companies you can buy hosting from – What I list below are top international companies that I personally host my websites and blogs on.
There are also local hosting companies in Kenya, but am not going to recommend them because I have not used them myself.
Some of these International Hosting companies offer a free domain when you buy hosting from them. You can contact me below if you need help on this.
Next up is Choosing a Blogging Platform
Choose a Blogging Platform
There are many blogging platforms available. The best and most recommended is WordPress (self-hosted). WordPress is a free and open-source content management system, it powers 33% websites on the internet today. WordPress can be used to create not only a blog but also, Forum, Business websites, eCommerce stores, Blogs, Portfolios, Resumes, Forums, Social networks, Membership sites or anything else you can dream up.
There are Two types of WordPress:
- WordPress.org, often called self-hosted WordPress, is the free, open-source WordPress software that you can install on your own domain and web host to create a website that’s 100% your own.

Most of the time, when people say “WordPress”, they mean the self-hosted WordPress available at WordPress.org. If you want to truly own your website, self-hosted WordPress.org is always the best option.
Am using WordPress.org (Self-Hosted) for all my blog if you are wondering.
